BMX ace sets the pace
TEN-year-old BMX champion Mitch Hoad is ready to prove you're never too young to thrive on the fierce
trans-Tasman rivalry.
The Cairns ace has been selected in the Australian team that will take on New Zealand’s best riders in the Mighty 11s BMX competition this year.
Hoad's mother, Cairns BMX club president Emma Hoad, said the Mighty 11s was one of the toughest competitions on the BMX calendar.
"It’s quite a hard thing to get into so he’s done well to do it," she said.
"It’s quite a prestigious event and it’s one of the major events for any BMX rider coming through."
The Kiwi riders perform the haka in their pre-game ritual.
The first round in the series is in Casino, NSW, in July with the New Zealand round in October.
Mitch’s long-term goal is to compete in the Olympics, with his role model Cairns men’s champion Ronnie Dugdell.
