Bringing a dream to life: The story of Jose and Margarita Paronella will be showcased in a new theatre restaurant experience.

AN impossible dream has become a reality with the launch of a five-star theatre restaurant experience for Cairns.

Award-winning tourist attraction Paronella Park and Cairns' Shangri-La Hotel have a new venture on the boil - a "gourmet theatre event" that will be staged in the Shangri-La ballroom 363 days a year.

Opening night for The Impossible Dream is on July 24.

Paronella Park's Judy Evans said the production, penned by Philip Witts and first performed by Cairns' JUTE Theatre in 2005, was a romantic comedy following the true story of Catalan dreamer Jose Paronella who left Spain for the far-flung cane fields of Mena Creek near Innisfail.

Mrs Evans said actors from Cairns, Townsville, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney were auditioning for the production.

She said fresh local produce would feature in "five-star, silver-service, sumptuous, three-course meals" at the Shangri-La.

Paronella Park's new company M&J Productions also hoped to tour the show nationally and globally in three to five years, Mrs Evans said.
