Tiger Airways announces Cairns service
BREAKING NEWS: Low cost Asian airline Tiger Airways is to begin daily services between Cairns and Melbourne from $98 one way.
The late night/early morning flights are due to start in September subject to regulatory approval.
Using Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 seats, the airline has the capacity to bring more than 2500 people a week to Cairns.
It is the fourth major airline to operate on the domestic network to Cairns and the airline says it could be the beginning of more flights from other destinations.
The flights will leave Melbourne at 9pm and arrive at 12.25am and return at 12.55am to touch down in Melbourne at 4.20am.
The industry welcomed the flights, providing more seats and more competition.
