RESCUE crews are searching for a man stranded in croc-infested waters at Weipa. SES teams were deployed this morning.

Crews are currently scouring Pine River, north of Weipa.

The area can only be accessed via boats and sources believe the man was on a fishing trip when he became stranded.

Emergency Management Queensland area director Wayne Hepple said crews were heading to the scene sometime before 9am.

“It sounds like he’s gone fishing and had some trouble once he’s out there,’’ he said.

The search comes less than four months since a gyrocopter pilot sparked a two-day land and air search after crashing his aircraft south of Weipa.

Sean Anthony spent two nights lost in rugged scrub with no food or water and only crocodiles for company before being picked up by two pig hunters.
