Everyone is a potential bird lover for the hosts of Red Mill House Bed and Breakfast, Trish and Andrew Forsyth.

This beautiful location, in the heart of Daintree Village, took our breath away. Tasteful and charming airconditioned ensuite rooms feature lovely wide verandas on which we spent a few casual hours relaxing with a drink and listening to the birds while we admired the tropical gardens. Guests are also welcome to enjoy a swim in the large swimming pool.

ed Mill House provides a sumptuous homemade breakfast that includes breads, yoghurt and jams and our absolute favourite – a plate of local tropical fruits. Trish and Andrew take great pleasure in sharing their love of birds and other wildlife with their treasured guests.

Their warmth and enthusiasm are unmatched in our experience and we felt right at home. Red Mill House is well known in the area as a favourite spot for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts of all kinds, in large part because Trish and Andrew are themselves so dedicated to sharing their interest in the ecology, wildlife and conservation of the Daintree.

After you’ve settled in and are ready to explore, they’ll set you up with local bird lists and mud maps.

The B&B has a four-star rating and Advanced Eco-Certification. It also features a communal lounge with a terrific nature library that includes field guides, telescopes and binoculars for guests to use. There’s even a great selection of fiction available for swapping.

Now that you’re in Daintree Village, you simply must look into a truly unique way in which to explore the rainforest, cattle country and logging tracks.

Just 1km from the Village on Upper Daintree Rd is a cattle property that offers the ultimate off-road experience with spectacular mountaintop views. This is the Argo 8x8 Rainforest Tour, a one-hour adventure that takes you through World Heritage rainforest and provides you with stunning views of Daintree River.

The low-impact Argo climbs what would otherwise be inaccessible tracks through rainforest canopies. Your hosts are charming and friendly and you are sure to enjoy this small, personalised eco-tour.
