Flights of fancy
David Helfgott, one of the world's best-loved pianists, is on the road giving solo recitals in Australia and New Zealand and will hit the Cairns Civic Theatre on Saturday night.
Acknowledged as one of the most remarkable musicians of our time, David Helfgott is a virtuoso pianist who touches the hearts of all who hear him and brings joy to concert-goers of all ages.
A highlight of the performance will be David’s dazzling interpretation of Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Flight of the Bumblebee, which he performed to a huge international audience at the Oscars and counts itself as one of the most complex pieces of piano ever written.
He will also perform works by Mendelssohn, Rachmaninov, Chopin and Lizst.
The 1996 film Shine, directed by Scott Hicks, propelled David Helfgott to worldwide fame.
He was portrayed in the film by Geoffrey Rush, who won an Academy Award for his astonishingly accurate performance of the great, but troubled genius.
Don’t miss the man in action for one night only this weekend as part of Cairns Festival.
