High fashion stakes for Cairns Amateurs
IT IS not just the women making fashion statements - men also will be suiting up to impress at next weekend's Cairns Amateurs.
Although women far outnumber men in the Fashions on the Field competitions, organiser Louise Orbons says more stylish males are stepping forward.
"It has always been a highly sought after event," she said.
"I feel the men will definitely be some competition this year."
Entry fees have been waived for Fashions on the Field this year and already about 60 entrants have registered online. "The majority of people register on the day. We’ll also have fashion spotters on the day, so if you’re looking particularly suave, men or women, we’ll ask you to enter," Ms Orbons said.
Television presenters Kylie Gillies and Joanne Desmond will host the fashion event and Garden Party, which includes reserved seating, table service and prizes such as a guitar autographed by Powderfinger members and a tennis ball signed by Roger Federer.
An airconditioned pampering parlour will be available to keep race-goers looking their best at the Garden Party.
"It’s going to be a great day out," Ms Orbons said.
The stylist said the best fashion advice was to be yourself.
"Be comfortable with your sense of style. If you feel comfortable you’re going to look like a million dollars," she said.
