THE Fall of Erebus marks the triumphant rise for one young filmmaker from Cairns to Cannes.

Jeffrey Andersen, 22, is the writer and director of The Fall of Erebus which has its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival short film corner in May.

The former Bentley Park College student created the short as his graduating film from Queensland University of Technology’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Brisbane and had to knock back an invitation for it to be shown at a US film festival in favour of Cannes.

“When I found out I was going to Cannes, I was over the moon,” Mr Andersen said.

The 10-minute film is about two brothers – one a scientist and the other a soldier – who discover the truth behind the heart of their city and a malicious plan to take control of it.
