A NEW concept store at Cairns airport is the first of a chain that its owner is hoping to develop throughout Australia.

The first Health + Beauty Express is the second last tenancy to be filled at the redeveloped domestic terminal departure lounge.

Proprietor Rajiv Bhindi said Health + Beauty Express was a concept that grew out of his existing Airport Pharmacy at Adelaide airport.

“Our experience there showed us that travellers are looking for a good selection of quality, affordable perfumes, cosmetics and skin care as well as over-the-counter pharmacy items,” he said.

“We’ve developed this concept for the new Cairns store further to offer an exclusive range of convenient travel-sized items that also meet the regulations for international travel.

“This includes gorgeous minia-ture bottles of many top-name fragrances.”

Mr Bhindi said he was considering one at Adelaide airport in addition to the registered pharmacy as well as in the international terminal redevelopment in Cairns.

He said he believed Cairns airport had a strong future with increasing passenger numbers.

Mr Bhindi said he had held discussions with airport management about another one as part of the refurbished international departure area.

He said he was also keen to add the store to other airports.

Cairns Airport commercial and terminals general manager Kate McCreery-Carr said Health + Beauty Express was “an exciting addition to the retail offer” at the airport.

“We congratulate Raj and his team on their striking new store with its distinctive black and white decor and beautiful product range,” she said.

Ms McCreery-Carr said the airport hoped to complete the final tenancy soon, which was another “exciting concept”.

She said other aspects of the domestic terminal project included a display to honour aviation pioneers, a giant DC3 mural near the entrance to the Qantas Club, advertising billboards and branding space.

The domestic terminal has 11 new concepts in its departure lounge retail area, including World of Chocolate, Discover (souvenirs, gifts), Hub (convenience items), Bijoux Terner (women's fashion accessories), Healthy Habits, La Porchetta, The Coffee Club, Skybury Coffee, Blue Sky Brewery, Purely Merino and the new Health + Beauty Express.

The other stores that are already operating are Hungry Jacks, Purely Australian, Australian Produce, Newslink, Beach Culture, International Currency Exchange and The Sunglass Hut.
