Cairns Adventure Film Festival is Australasia's only dedicated extreme and adventure sports film festival and competition taking place over three days this week at the Centre Of Contemporary Arts in Cairns and AJ Hackett at Smithfield.

The annual event is an action-packed three days of high octane fun with the competition attracting entrants from across Australia, Asia and the South Pacific.

Films come from the full gamut of the extreme sport and adventure spectrum, be it in the air, on land or on the water (or any combination of the above) with huge prizes for the best films on Saturday night in both short and long format.

There will also be a selection of award-winning feature and short films from some of the world’s best extreme sport filmmakers.

The event kicks off tonight and Friday night at the Centre Of Contemporary Arts on Abbott St, followed by the gala awards night at AJ Hackett on Saturday, featuring all the best films of the competition broadcast on two massive HD projectors.

TONIGHT

CAFF OPENING NIG

Centre Of Contemporary Arts, 96 Abbott St, from 7pm

Cairns Adventure Film Festival opens with the screening of Last Paradise, a captivating film that chronicles the past 45 years of extreme sports in New Zealand.

Four years in the making, it’s a great film for all ages that combines innovation, adrenaline and science.

Also screening is A Wedged Tail, by Adam Hermans, the story of a bird-loving tree climber who goes in search of the ultimate shot – the kill; and A Little Bit Of Mongolia, by Michael Dillon, an inspiring story about the Naadam Festival Horse Race in Mongolia.

FRIDAY

CAFF DAY TWO

Centre Of Contemporary Arts, 96 Abbott St, from 7pm

The fun continues on Friday night with Bikes And Broken Bones, a journey into the underground freestyle motocross culture of Australia. Warning: If you can’t handle the sight of blood, broken bones and bodies smashing into the earth, do not watch this film!

Also featuring is In The Shadow Of The Mountain, by Max Segal, a South Island NZ mountaineering film; and Expedition Amazonas, a documentary about paddling the mighty Amazon River from source to sea.

SATURDAY

CAFF GALA AWARDS NIGHT

AJ Hackett Cairns, McGregor Rd, Smithfield, from 7pm

The main event sees all the best films submitted to the Cairns Adrenaline Film Festival competition on show on two massive HD screens.

Be the first to see who will take home the big prizes, with licensed bar, entertainment, bungy, Minjin swing, parkour demonstrations and loads more. The biggest extreme sports film even in Australasia for 2011, not to be missed!
