All set for The Cairns Post Fun Run
YOU don't have to be an elite athlete to take part in a Cairns Airport Adventure Festival race event. This is your chance to take part in Cairns' biggest ever sporting festival. Are you participating?
In fact, you don’t even have to be an athlete.
On Friday, The Cairns Post Run for Cairns charity fun run is on along the Cairns Esplanade and hundreds of runners and walkers in red are expected to take part.
The 5km run and walk is a chance for Far Northerners of all ages and abilities to soak up the festival atmosphere and raise money for the Far North Queensland Hospital Foundation.
While the elite prepare for their iron distance triathlon on Sunday, join the locals for a 5km stroll or running battle for great prizes and heaps of fun.
So far more than 200 runners have signed up for the run with more expected to turn up on race morning.
But organisers are calling for participants planning to join in to put their best foot forward and register now – before the rush on Friday.
Weather forecasters are predicting a sunny, mild Friday morning.
The fun run will start at 7.30am from the Lagoon with participants making their way up and back along the Esplanade and finishing at Fogarty Park.
Organisers are urging people to wear red to support the fundraising cause with all money going towards the children’s ward playground development at Cairns Base Hospital.
Senior project manager Tammy Barker said today was the last day to register online for $15 an adult and $10 a child. Race-day registrations at Fogarty Park would start from 6.15am but would cost $20 adult and $15 for child.
