August 13.

And The Cairns Post is looking to get the city involved with a series of competitions connected with the event.

Far Northern musicians and DJs are reminded the closing date for this year’s Battle Of The Bands and DJs is today at 5pm.

The competition gives one local live act and DJ the chance to perform on the main stage on the big day.

Kirsten Wood, 17, is a local singer-songwriter who has nominated in the Battle Of The Bands for the second consecutive year.

About to launch her debut EP this weekend at Mt Garnet’s Essence Festival and again next week at Mondo Cafe and Bar at the Hilton, Ms Wood said she can’t wait to take on the competition armed with her new music.

"Last year was an amazing opportunity for artists young and old to get some experience in live performance and meet other bands," she said.

"I’m looking forward to meeting all the other bands this year and to be able to mix it with all the amazing talent again."

Musicians aren’t the only people who can get involved in this year’s timeOUT Day In The Park.

The Cairns Post is also looking for two timeOUT Rock Journalists to work in tandem with timeOUT editor Jesse Kuch to blog, interview bands and take photos both in the lead-up to the event and on the day, alongside a four person timeOUT Street Team to assist with social media and viral marketing.

The winners of the Rock Journalist and Street Team competitions will also take home an Apple iPhone and other exclusive prizes.

Young talent: 17-year-old Kirsten Wood has put her name forward for the Battle Of The Bands.
