Clever fence men make pool inspections a snap with iPhone app
Cairns businessmen are using their iPhones to help ease the pressure of their workloads.
Mypoolinspection owner Darryl Posgate and colleague Matt Hanson have created an app to meet the demands of pool owners which is now being used statewide and is expected to take off globally.
Mr Posgate said the app was created when state legislation came into place that required pool owners to have fences certified.
"Matt and I saw this as a huge opportunity to get involved at the ground floor and introduce efficiencies that only cutting-edge IT technology could provide," Mr Posgate said.
In designing and building an iPhone app specifically for the pool fence inspection industry, they engaged the services of four local businesses.
"Everything from the iPhone app development to the custom-built data base, the web design, logo design and the creation of a 3D-generated 30-second television commercial were all designed and created here in Cairns," he said.
"We’ve both lived in Cairns for many years and made a conscious decision to use local talent for this project. I love Cairns and I really enjoy living here. To make the choice to use local IT experts was not a difficult decision, but I was blown away by the creativity and expertise that was on constant display throughout this project."
The local business has 28 fully licensed and insured pool safety inspectors throughout Queensland.
"Our clients range from body corporate managers to real estate agents, property managers, resort chains and individual pool owners.
"They now all benefit from a streamlined reporting and quality assurance system that is a world first," he said. "Inspections throughout Queensland are scheduled through the database, using local staff in Cairns.
"The app allows the pool safety inspector to answer a series of questions, explain what defects exist with the fence, offer common sense rectification methods, then take photos of each of the defects.
"The answers and photographs are uploaded to the Cairns database while the inspector is still standing at the pool gate."
The software automatically creates a full colour report – complete with embedded diagrams and photographs to illustrate the legislation, which the customer can have by email within minutes.
The system automatically generates and sends invoices to the pool owner, property manager which add to the efficiencies.
Fence repairers are also automatically issued quote request instructions and provide obligation-free quotes to the pool owner to get the repairs done.
Mr Hanson said the company aimed to maintain a high level of customer service with their call centre based in Cairns.
"Our level of customer service satisfaction is very high and the feedback that we’re getting on a daily basis constantly encourages us to develop new innovations and efficiencies," he said.
"The mypoolinspection call centre employs local staff and all customer contact and marketing and scheduling of inspections throughout Queensland are handled through the Cairns call centre.
"So it’s nice to know that people can pick up the phone and they will get a local on the other end, not someone in Sydney or India."
Mr Posgate said with the moratorium on rental properties expiring on July 8, the team at mypoolinpsection was gearing up for another period of frenetic activity.
"With the systems we’ve built with world-leading innovation from Cairns businesses, we are well and truly prepared to take the business to the next level."
