timeOUT Battle Of The Bands Heat 1 at Gilligan's
Back for round 2: Last year's runners-up Jobstopper are making a return in 2011.
The region's biggest live music competition kicks off this Sunday at Gilligan's, writes Jesse Kuch
Now in its sixth year, competiting in the timeOUT Battle Of The Bands has become a badge of honour for local musicians.
Not only does it give one lucky winner of the competition a chance to strut their stuff on the main stage of timeOUT Day In The Park on August 13 alongside The Living End, Drapht, British India and Nina Las Vegas but it also represents the pinnacle of our local music scene with the best bands facing off against each other in a friendly, but at the same time serious, competition.

Nine out of 18 bands will be shaping up for their chance to take home a spot in the Grand Final on July 30, representing both a broad range of musical styles and ages with the city’s longest standing and most respected musicians lining up against the hottest young bands.
Acts include the stoner psychedelic rock of Peyote, punk rockers Sick Of The Silence and The Colour Society, acoustic singer-songwriter Kirsten Wood, reggae outfits Reggae Bliss and Koahlition, electronic folksters Velvet 11, acoustic hip-hoppers Zilch and ska-punks Jobstopper.
