THE Cairns Amateurs Ball will have a different kind of water view this year.

After being held at the Tobruk Pool for 31 years, there are some sweeping changes to Cairns’ premier social event including a new venue at the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal and five different entertainment performances throughout the night.

Amateurs CEO Graham Thornton said it was time for a change.

"The Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal is walking distance from a host of city hotels so it will be really easy for visitors or locals who are staying the night in the CBD," Mr Thornton said.

"The ball will also feature five different performances. These acts will be everything from choir music to rock music and promise an unforgettable night."

Mr Thornton said the menu this year featured two dining options – an upgraded buffet area or a plated VIP area.

"The buffet area this year is markedly different to the past in that we will have a series of stations with different types of cuisine being freshly cooked on the spot," he said.
