A LARGE female python which has eluded snake catchers at Yorkeys Knob for months has finally met her match.
The 18.5kg snake, which had threatened to bring down the roof of the Hekili Outrigger Canoe Club, was captured yesterday by Cairns Snake Removals’ Dave Walton.
He had the help of National Geographic’s Python Hunters from Florida, who have been in the Far North filming a documentary.
Mr Walton has been trying for months to catch the 5m snake but she has proved elusive, even dragging Mr Walton around the boatshed roof she called home with up to five male pythons.
Not even the charm of television’s Bondi Vet, Dr Chris Brown, could lure the python out when he came to Cairns in August looking for her.

"I’ve had hold of her a couple of times but I could really only get the tail end each time and I didn’t want to damage her by wrestling her out of the roof space," Mr Walton said.
"This female has been the one that’s been attracting all the males over the years and they were certainly getting it on in the roof, that’s for sure."
"We’ll now try and work out where is an appropriate place, whether it be the rainforest or somewhere near mangroves, for her to go and live out the rest of her days."
