Book Review: Already Home
Jenna Stevens returns home after the breakdown of her marriage and her loss of confidence in her own abilities as a chef.
She impulsively opens a cooking store, hires Violet - an experienced but “different” manager - and with the help of her adoptive mother starts to get back on her feet. That is until her hippie birth parents walk in and want to reconnect with their first born.
I expected your typical “chick lit”-type novel, a simple story with a happy ending. Was I surprised. Rather, it's a book about relationships - family, friends, spousal, adoptive and especially the inner self. Jenna grows as a person and realises there is no perfect family, only the people we love.
Verdict: Chick lit with substance and not too much of the mushy stuff.
Already Home, by Susan Mallery, is published by Mira, Price $29.99.
