100,000 reasons why the Great Barrier Reef is a diver's dream
DEEP Sea Divers Den in Cairns has certified its 100,000th PADI diver - making it just the third company in the world to achieve the milestone.
"The company is extremely proud to have reached this level – an average PADI dive facility would take around 125 years to reach that milestone," Deep Sea Divers Den spokesman John Brown said.
Deep Sea Divers Den reached the mark in 37 years.
"I’m not surprised that people have chosen Cairns – the Great Barrier Reef is one of the destinations in the world that is a must-see," he said.
PADI Asia Pacific marketing manager Danny Dwyer presented Deep Sea Divers Den with a plaque to commemorate the milestone.
"Deep Sea Divers Den is only the third company in our history to receive 100,000 PADI certifications – so that’s huge," he said.
Pro Dive Cairns was the first company in the world to reach the 100,000 PADI milestone in 2008, followed by Ban’s Dive Resort in Koh Tao, Thailand, last year.
"The fact that two out of the three are from Cairns shows you just how popular the Great Barrier Reef is as a diving destination," Mr Dwyer said.
