Young fashion designers in Cairns showcase wares
AN inaugural Cairns fashion forum will be held at Tropical North Queensland TAFE tomorrow to help local style gurus slice out their own niche in the industry.
The event, hosted by AusIndustry, Cairns Regional Council and the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation, will inspire an upcoming generation of designers.
Nine presenters will share their success stories, including Brisbane fashion entrepreneur Natalie D’Alessandro of National Designer Sales.
Crowned emerging designer at the 2011 Cairns Amateurs, 18-year-old Cairns fashion designer Bella Nucifora said the forum would help foster fresh talent in the Far North.
"I know I’m only young myself but some younger people ask me how I got to where I am and I think something like this (forum) will really encourage them to grow and reach their dreams," she said.
"It’s also important to understand the business side of things."
DEEDI senior regional development officer Belinda Down said the forum would highlight the available government support programs and grants.
TNQT Institute director Joann Pyne urged anyone interested in a future in fashion to attend the forum.

The forum will be held at the TAFE’s K Block Theatrette from 8.30am to 1pm tomorrow.
