Picture perfect Far North among nation's best
Tourism gems: Mossman Gorge, Myall Beach at Cape Tribulation and the Captain Cook Highway were selected in Australian Traveller magazine’s Top 100 views list.
A RAINFOREST-shrouded gorge, a secluded beach and a scenic road between Cairns and Port Douglas are among Far Northern attractions featuring in a national list of tourism gems.
Mossman Gorge was named the 14th most scenic location in Australian Traveller magazine’s Top 100 Views, a list decided by a panel of landscape photographers that included former Cairns gallery owner Peter Lik.
Cape Tribulation’s Myall Beach was ranked 33rd and the Captain Cook Highway scraped in a 98.
Tourism Port Douglas Daintree executive officer Doug Ryan was chuffed that his region scored three spots on the list.
"It just shows where we rate in Australia when it comes to tourism attractions," he said.
"Certainly the drive on the Captain Cook Highway is one of the most scenic in Australia.
"Mossman Gorge is one of the most visited attractions in Australia – it’s up there with Ayers Rock in terms of visitations.
"Myall Beach is a popular spot for photographs. At low tide the coral is exposed – it’s literally where rainforest meets the reef."
Hardy Reef, on the Great Barrier Reef, was named the most picturesque location for travellers.
