What makes a Cairns home special enough to win a swag of Housing Industry Association awards?

To celebrate the national HIA-CSR Housing Awards in Cairns on Friday, Cairns builder Ron Easterbrook is inviting people to inspect his next entry in the prestigious building awards, a custom-designed home on the lake at Oceans Edge in Palm Cove, this weekend.

Mr Easterbrook’s company Eastbuild Designer Homes is vying for two awards, Custom Built Home of the Year and Outdoor Project of the Year, at the 2012 HIA-CSR Housing Awards at the Cairns Convention Centre.

The entry is a $2 million, two-storey, pavilion-style home on the waterfront at Kewarra Beach which won Eastbuild Designer Homes Home of the Year, Custom Built House of the Year and Outdoor Project of the Year at the HIA North Queensland Awards late last year.

The home took out the same categories in the HIA Cairns Awards last year as well as Custom Built House of the Year Greater than $800,000.

Eastbuild Designer Homes specialises in custom-built homes at the higher end of the market and Mr Easterbrook is hands-on with every project.

“I have a great team of very skilled local tradespeople who, like me, enjoy the challenge of working on custom-designed homes,” he said.

Mr Easterbrook has just completed a home at Oceans Edge which he will enter in the 2012 HIA Cairns Awards and has started construction on another home in the same street which he intends to enter in the 2013 awards.

“The public are welcome to view the house this weekend before the owners move in,” he said. “It is an outstanding home that has been crafted to fit in with its spectacular location and has a number of special features such as the pavilion design being fully enclosed to make it secure and weatherproof.

“The three-bedroom home makes the most of the cool ocean breezes with large under-roof breezeways featuring a stunning rosewood timber ceiling and timber decking dividing the living and sleeping areas. The home at 54 Ocean Dr, Oceans Edge, in Palm Cove is open for inspection today and tomorrow noon-5pm.
