THE Cairns Taipans will begin the NBL season with a Saturday night home battle against arch rivals Townsville on October 6.

That game will be the first in orange for former Melbourne Tiger Cam Tragardh and college duo Cam Gliddon and Clint Steindl.

Tragardh will get the chance to face his former club when the Taipans play the Tigers in Melbourne on December 16.

But Cairns fans will be licking their lips in anticipation of the rematch in Cairns on New Year’s Eve.

Another prominent feature of the draw, which was released on Monday, was the scheduling of an NBL All-Star game on Sunday, December 23.

The Taipans will play Sydney, New Zealand, Melbourne and Gold Coast (twice) in the last four weeks before the semi-finals.
