Socceroos star Mark Schwarzer drops in to see children train in the Far North
ABOUT 100 junior soccer players were given the surprise of their lives when Socceroos star Mark Schwarzer dropped in to a Marlin Coast training session yesterday.
"We were just setting up and one of the kids just goes ‘Oh my God, that’s Mark Schwarzer’. His jaw just dropped," Juniors coach Jeanette Curran said.
"Then everyone just started running over there and swarming him. He was just flooded."
Mrs Curran’s sons Sean, 10, and Cameron, 13, and clubmate Jack Biber, joined the excited fans as Schwarzer signed whatever was thrown at him.
"I was just so shocked to see him there in front of us and he was so nice," Cameron said.
His mate Jack, a goalkeeper himself, got his gloves signed by the Socceroos ace.
"I couldn’t believe it," he said.
"A couple of nights ago I was watching him on TV and then he’s down there at our training."
Club president Peter Doutre said Schwarzer had been in the region visiting a friend who was coaching a Marlin Coast juniors team.
