Zoe tops young talent line at Cairns Eisteddfod
Zoe Poweleit has fine tuned her vocal cords to take out a Cairns Eisteddfod singing competition.
The 11-year-old Lake Placid youngster won the girls vocal solo (10 and under-12) yesterday in just her first eisteddfod performance.
"I sang (folk song) I Know Where I'm Goin'. I was really nervous," she said.
"There's lots of people there and when you get on stage you are really nervous but the piano is really helpful with the background music."
Zoe's singing teacher Katerini Manolatos encouraged the budding singer to take part in this year's eisteddfod. With about 1000 performers entering the Cairns Eisteddfod this year in the music category, Ms Manolatos said the competition was a confidence booster.
"Zoe has a lovely clear voice. I thought she was ready," Ms Manolatos said.
The music section of the eisteddfod runs until June 21 with dance, speech and drama sections from June 22 to June 30.
