Youngsters audition for Cairns Junior Eisteddfod competition
EXCITED children waited in anticipation for their turn to perform yesterday at the Cairns and District Junior Eisteddfod 57th competition at Edge Hill.
Elle Tomita, 11, from Whitfield State School, and Ryan O’Grady, 13, from St Augustine’s, said they both practised violin for at least an hour a day.
"I’ve been playing for six years because it challenges me," Ryan O’Grady said.
"I’m not sure though whether I want to be a professional musician – I might want to become a millionaire and be a nuclear engineer."
Assistant treasurer of Cairns and District Eisteddfod Derek Billingsley said they were expecting record numbers.
"The turnout has been fabulous – we are expecting 3000 through the door," he said.
The Cairns Eisteddfod continues until June 30.
