Cairns Esplanade Lagoon ready to reopen
BACKPACKERS and business owners are rejoicing after news the Esplanade Lagoon will reopen tomorrow.
With a sunny day forecast and temperatures to hit 27C, a big turnout is expected at the pool.
Nika Reyersen Van Burren and Esmee Nederlof, from The Netherlands, said they had hoped to take a dip at the Lagoon but were leaving for Sydney today.
Miss Nederlof, 21, said the pair had been in Cairns for three days and were disappointed the Lagoon had been closed for maintenance.
"I’ve been here before and the Lagoon was open then but the weather wasn’t good," she said.
Lagoon Cafe worker Jane Neville said business had been slow since the closure on June 6.
"It’s just a relief it is opening," she said.
Cairns Regional councillor Richie Bates told The Cairns Post the Lagoon was expected to open on Wednesday but yesterday announced workers were ahead of schedule.
