Star in Israel Cruz's new film clip at RNB Superclub plus Get Up! dance competition
Pop and lock: top Brisbane dance crew Clockwork in action at World Supremacy Battlegrounds 2011.
Don't miss your chance to compete for one of the coolest jobs in town and star in Israel Cruz's new film clip!
Gilligan’s again proves its “super club” status this Friday, with a huge night of entertainment from some of the country’s biggest stars in urban music, alongside the launch of their new dance competition.
Get Up! is Gilligan’s quest to find its new in-house dance crew and will see some of the region’s finest strutting their stuff on stage for $2000 in cash and prizes.
The competition runs for four weeks, with three winners selected at the end of the competition not only taking home a cash prize, but also a paid job at Gilligan’s.
Joining the Get Up! launch tomorrow night is Brisbane’s Clockwork, one of Australia’s top dance crews.
Clockwork consists of five boys specialising in their own specific dance style: Alex Morris (power), Benjamin Garcia-Adams (B-boy and groove), Clarence Kent (popping and locking), Jackson Garcia-Adams (B-boy and house) and Neil Woodwards (popping and animation/robot).
Together, they have taken out nearly every major competition in Australia of note and will head to Las Vegas this August to represent Australia in the World Hip Hop Internationals, the globe’s biggest and most prestigious hip-hop dance comp.
Gilligan’s Zac Ross says Clockwork add a bit of class to what will be a great event showcasing some of Cairns’ finest dancers.
“We’re looking for Cairns’ best dancers, to compete and hopefully become part of the G Spot dance team,” Zac says.
“Hopefully it will diversify our entertainment program with another element.”
After heat 1 of the dance competition finishes, Gilligan’s turns its attention to RNB Superclub, where party favourites DJ G-Wizard and MC Jayson return to launch Volume 12 of their highly successful urban compilation series.
As an added bonus, their performance will feature a special guest appearance from Australian R’n’B sensation Israel Cruz, who will be bringing his MC and a film crew on the night, with the footage filmed used in the clip for his highly anticipated new single.
With the success of his previous tracks Party Up and Your Body, this is a chance to become part of one of the hottest urban single releases of the year.
Zac says Gilligan’s just “got lucky” in attracting Cruz to the venue.
“He’d seen videos of the club through other friends in the industry and he needed a club scene to use in his new video clip,” Zac says.
“He touched base and asked if we could do it and of course, we said yes, absolutely. It’s a no brainer.
“We can’t wait to host him in the Far North this weekend.”
>> Gilligan’s Get Up! Dance Competition registration opens at 9pm on Friday night, with competition running from about 10pm-11.30pm. Clockwork will perform during this time. RNB Superclub kicks off from midnight, with performances from G-Wizard, MC Jayson and Israel Cruz. Tickets at door.
