One of Queensland's most unique arts festivals returns in 2012 with a dynamic program of contemporary performance, music,
installation, new media and theatre.

Now in its seventh year, the On Edge media and performance festival has a strong focus on developing local Far Northern performance and arts products.

A proudly independent festival that partners and collaborates with a number of local arts and cultural organisations, On Edge presents a diverse and captivating experience for Cairns audiences.

With several of the exhibitions already on show at KickArts and Centre of Contemporary Arts, the festival kicks into top gear this Friday with the official opening party.

The event will feature the official opening of the I, Alien exhibition by Mills and long-time collaborator Zane Saunders, Kuranda’s global ukulele darlings Bosko & Honey, new media work by Bonemap and rowdy musings from Blue Lustre.

Other highlights from the next two weeks of the festival include another encore performance from Brisbane’s Polytoxic (who wowed local audiences with their show The Rat Trap a few weeks ago), Melbourne’s The Last Tuesday Society, Sydney’s Version 1.0 and another Sydney act, Donny Benet, who was the star of this year’s Mona Foma and Adelaide Festivals.

Festival producer Nicholas Mills says he’s proud of this year’s program and looks forward to presenting it to the Far North over the next two weeks.

“The 2012 program is very rich with colour and contrast, and our great presenting partners have helped to create a high-integrity contemporary arts and performance festival for Cairns,” Nick says.
