LADY Gaga, eat your heart out - Tropical North Queensland TAFE students may not be making dresses out of meat but they're experts at creating plastic masterpieces.

Eight students from the applied fashion design and technology course have taken recyclable plastic items like bags, plates, spoons and shower curtains to mould stunning outfits.

Jamie-Lee Stephenson, 18, said the inspiration for her strapless, bow-adorned dress came from the desire to have a little fun.

“I wanted to make something colourful and sustainable. This part of our course is really enjoyable and you can be really creative and experimental,” she said.

Teacher Yvonne Turnbull said the environmental unit encouraged students to think about fashionable recycling.
