Discovery Channel to show best of the Far North
A FIRST class tropical lunch showcasing the Far North's best food and beverage products is to be broadcast to a global audience of more than 133 million people on the Discovery Channel.
The Trinity Luncheon, to be attended by 200 invited guests and held at the Cairns Lagoon overlooking Trinity Bay in two weeks, has been organised by Events NQ to launch the 2012 Cairns Festival.
It is expected to go to air on the network’s Travel and Living Channel – also featuring Globe Trekker and a number of Jamie Oliver’s cooking shows – early next year.
Event manager Sarah Whipp said they were approached by the channel’s producers who were looking for an exclusive food event that reflected life in the tropics and representing the Great Barrier Reef.
Ochre’s Craig Squire will feature prominently throughout the 30-minute show as he prepares the menu using Far Northern produce.
Show host Angela Kan will pair with Ms Whipp to look at local fashion trends inspired by life in the tropics as models take to the catwalk in the latest spring race collections available at Grafton St boutiques.
Ms Whipp said a Cairns designer would be chosen to style Ms Kan.
"She is looking to wear something inspired by the tropics to the Trinity Luncheon and we are sourcing the perfect designer to create something unique, specifically for her," Ms Whipp said.
"Our boutiques have hand-picked the best dresses, shoes, hats and jewellery to feature on the catwalk, offering some great inspiration for the upcoming Cairns Amateurs."
Men’s fashion from Victor Mellick will feature as well.
"This is such a coup for the region. The Travel and Living Channel is one of the Discovery Network’s premium channels airing across 20 Asia Pacific countries and to over 133 million households in 75 counties worldwide," Ms Whipp said.
"We want to give guests an intimate, comfortable experience and showcase quality in cuisine, presentation and fashion," she said.
The event, which costs $155 a head and has only 50 places left, is sponsored by Audi Centre Cairns with other sponsors including Tiffany & Co, Robert Oatley Vineyards, Hamilton Island, Events NQ, Intrust Super, Blue Sky Brewery, Zinc FM, Bidvest and Tokunai Hair.
