A 60-year-old woman has been flown to Cairns Base Hospital in a stable condition after falling down a rocky embankment.

The woman needed to be winched from the bottom of a 10-metre incline at Granite Gorge, 16km west of Mareeba, by a helicopter which then transported her to hospital.

She has suspected head and spinal injuries.
