WHILE times are tough for many businesses in Cairns, others are taking a more positive view by expanding their operations.

One in particular is Ultratune, which has just opened up a new southside vehicle servicing centre.

Franchisees Peter and Karen Heath said the new store was booming and had just achieved the highest first-week figures of any new store of the company’s 266 outlets nationwide.

"It has taken off big time," Mr Heath said.

"When we opened our Smithfield store in 2009 just after the economic crash, that centre from day one had performed according to the sales projection and is now a driving force on the north side of Cairns.

"When organising the fitout of the new store so many people said that Cairns was not moving forward and many businesses were closing, but my reply was that we are expanding and we address the market as it is.

"Part of that strategy is offering good service, competitive pricing and friendly staff.

"They are all the key factors for the stores doing so well."

Ultratune Australia's general manager Robert Coleman, who was in Cairns to inspect the new facility, said the Heaths' efforts set a shining example to the group.

"It meets and exceeds our standards," he said.

"It really is the image we want customers to have of Ultratune across Australia."

Mr Coleman said with 37 multi-franchisees, the Heaths were among the best the company had.

"They are very progressive and totally open to changes as the industry develops," he said.
