3D Nemo back to wow moviegoers
ONE of the voice stars of Finding Nemo may have never dived or snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, but says the film's 3D rework is the best advertising our region can get on the global tourism stage.
Hollywood legend Albert Brooks, who voiced Marlin in Finding Nemo, alongside roles everywhere from television’s The Simpsons to classic film Taxi Driver, said he prefers to leave the ocean "to the fish", but told The Cairns Post our region will again be on display for the whole world to see when the film returns to cinemas across the globe in 3D tomorrow.
"I have been down your way, but I didn’t do any snorkelling," he told The Cairns Post.
"I’m not a big snorkeller, I’m a bit old fashioned in that I believe the sea belongs to the fish.
"But the film really did show everyone the beautiful part of the world you live in."
Brooks said that of all of the recent 3D conversions of classic Disney-Pixar films, he thinks Finding Nemo works the best.
"It made sense to do this in 3D," Brooks said.
"It’s so visually stunning, it lends itself to 3D when a lot of other films don’t."
Brooks is tight-lipped about the prospect of reprising his role as Marlin in the film’s sequel, announced in July to be released in 2016, but said he’s definitely open to returning for round two.
"I think it’s just in the planning stages, but Andrew Stanton (original director) is attached to it again and he’s a quality guy," he said.
"I don’t think he’d wanna do it if he thought he didn’t have something new to bring to the table."
Passions Of Paradise CEO Scott Garden said the tourism benefits of Finding Nemo continue until this day and welcomed both its return to cinemas in 3D and the planned sequel.
Finding Nemo 3D hits cinemas tomorrow. For the full interview with Albert Brooks, read this week’s Hit, inside tomorrow’s The Cairns Post.
