Muriel's Wedding director PJ Hogan is coming to town for a special preview of his new film Mental and we've got a chance for you to participate in an exclusive screening and Q&A session.

Celebrated Australian director PJ Hogan (Muriel’s Wedding, My Best Friend’s Wedding) launches his new film Mental across the country in October, but not before a special preview and Q&A session right here in Cairns on September 12.

Reuniting Hogan with his Muriel’s Wedding star Toni Colette (pictured), alongside some of Australia’s most popular actors including Anthony LaPaglia, Liev Schreiber, Deborah Mailman, Rebecca Gibney and Sam Clark, Mental is a quintessentially Australian film about five young girls, their despicable politician father and a crazy nanny called Shaz.

The Moochmore girls are certain they all suffer from some kind of undiagnosed mental illness – because if they’re not crazy then they’re just unpopular.

Their mother Shirley – unable to cope with her demanding daughters and unsupported by her philandering politician husband, Barry – suffers a nervous breakdown. After Barry commits his wife to a mental hospital (telling his constituents that “she’s on holiday”) he finds himself alone with the five teenage girls he barely knows.

Desperate, he impulsively picks up a hitchhiker named Shaz and installs her in his home as nanny to his daughters… with “mental” results.

To celebrate the release of Mental on October 4, Event Cinemas Cairns is hosting a special sneak preview of the film on Wednesday, September 12 from 6.30pm, with the Q&A directly after the screening of the film.
