My Perfect Weekend : Bob Cane
Bob Cane is the owner and chauffeur at Cool Rides and a classic car enthusiast. This is how he likes to spend his perfect weekend.
"I have just bought a retro old caravan that can tour behind my old cars.
It is a 1963 Globe Trotter Gold Coaster.
I only just got it at the Cairns swap meet and I will use it to get away for the weekend, so I will be bringing my own accommodation, attaching it to my 1957 Pontiac.
I do different things over the weekend depending on what's going on.
Mostly it is car show-related as I'm heavily into classic cars.
Normally I hang out with like-minded enthusiasts and I really like getting away for car meets or swap meets.
With my new caravan I am looking forward to going away to Kurrimine Beach or to the local beaches or out west.
I like to go to the hot springs, out near Chillagoe.
If I'm not going away, I spend the weekend by the pool and have a tasty beverage while swinging in my hammock.
I'm also in a local club; the All American Car Club of Cairns.
We have general meetings on the last Sunday of every month at Yorkeys Knob and there are plenty of events associated with it.
Last weekend we cruised to Mena Creek and had lunch.
It's great with all the American cars driving down the road.
People see the first car and they say, 'wow', and then they see the next one and say the same thing, and every time as each one goes past.
It's great travelling in convoy.
It's really good owning these cars because it's owning a piece of history.
They have that shape and appeal.
When you're sitting in one, you've got that identity.
Nothing feels better than to drive than a good V8.
I like to mix my weekends up with going out time and home time.
I'm not much of a reader but I love movies and enjoy watching DVDs.
I like checking out the local attractions and sometimes I will even just go down to the esplanade and throw a frisbee or go for a nice drive.
Another favourite is to go to a barbecue or host a barbecue for friends and have a tasty bevo.
I'm from Noosa but I think right here is the best part of the world.
There is such a variety of things to do whether you live here, or for friends and family when they come up, with the reef and rainforest."
IN SHORT
Favourite tipple? I definitely like a good bottle of red when having a barbecue. I also like beer.
What music do you listen to? Old classic rock 'n' roll.
What are you reading? I don't read much but sometimes I might read something when I'm lying in my hammock. I am currently reading The 1959 Cadillac Service Manual.
Who is your inspiration? My dear old mother because she has great family values.
Favourite item of clothing? My thongs (flip-flops).
What irritates you? People who litter. That really angers me. And people with bad manners.
Last supper? A piece of steak, with vegies and gravy.
Favourite things? My cars and my pet bearded dragon named Groucho. I have five lizards.
