Add your vision to the $23m Cairns waterfront revamp
IT was a drab cargo shed in a former life, but this waterfront building could be whatever you want it to be when it opens for business in the coming weeks.
Locals have been asked to suggest ideal tenants to fill the prime commercial space on Wharf St, where a $23 million revamp of the foreshore is almost complete.
Ports North says the perfect fit would be something that takes advantage of the pristine views over Trinity Inlet and the green hills beyond.
"I think businesses that tie in with the waterfront – seafood markets, cafes – businesses that are going to attract a pedestrian flow," Ports North chairman Brett Moller said.
Tradies have been working on the redevelopment since January, transforming waterfront land between Mondo Bar and Grill and the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal.
By November, the area will be a new leisure precinct to rival the Esplanade and Lagoon, with a playground and retail space.
The State Government and Ports North have called for expressions of interest to fill the 1300sqm historic shed.
