New Cairns NBL import on target in Taipans' preseason win

THE Taipans' latest arrival showed he would be a handful this season for the Snakes, knocking down 17 entertaining points as the hosts beat a near full- strength Perth team 91-80 last night.

Shane Edwards wowed the members-only crowd, throwing down two dunks and showing he had range from beyond the arc, while front court partner Cam Tragardh was again dominant with 20 points in 29 minutes.

First choice point guard Jamar Wilson played less than two minutes as he continued to ice a knee he injured in Tamworth against the Kings last week.

Likewise, Alex Loughton was rested completely, but is expected to make his first pre-season appearance in their rematch tonight.

Just as Clint Steindl started to find his range he was carried off with a cramp.

Coach Aaron Fearne said it was frustrating but necessary to manage Wilson’s bruised knee, while he was confident Steindl’s injury was not serious. The Taipans play the Wildcats again tonight at 7.30pm in a game open to the public.
