A YOUNG family were able to flee their Gordonvale home just moments before it was engulfed by flames last night.

Crews were called to the Campbell St home just after 9.30pm after countless 000 calls from neighbours who had spotted smoke and flames billowing from the one-storey property.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokesperson said it took almost 40 minutes to douse the blaze, but the house suffered significant damage with crews required to go back in later that night with several hot spots flaring.

Police said they are not treating the fire suspiciously and an electrical fault is believed to be the cause of the fire.

Fire and police investigators will inspect the property this morning.

A Department of Community Safety spokesperson said no one was injured during the fire.
