Man killed in light plane crash on Cape York

4pm: A 62-year-old South Australian man has been killed after his light plane crashed in a remote part of the Cape York peninsula.

The man, who was piloting the aircraft and was its sole passenger, left Bamaga Airport yesterday afternoon but failed to arrive at Weipa Airport as planned.

A search begun yesterday afternoon located the plane at remote Cotterell River, in western Cape York.

The man died at the scene.
