Rollover delays Range traffic
A TRUCK driver escaped with minor burns to his leg after his semi-trailer rolled on the Kuranda Range, closing the road for several hours.
Sand and gravel spilled over the road from the truck's first trailer after the truck crashed into an embankment near a hair-pin bend in the lower section of the range about 1.30pm yesterday. The road was reopened about 5.30pm.
The truck's second trailer remained upright, although the vehicle came to rest blocking both lanes.
The 35-year-old driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
He was treated at Cairns Base Hospital and later released.
Motorists waited in long queues as the road was cleared.
Kuranda resident Damon Welburn was among those stuck at Smithfield.
"There's been heaps of people who have turned around but it's a bit of a long trip for me to go all the way up the Gillies (range)," he said.
