A group of Cairns’ finest young musical outfits are joining forces with The Declan Crouch Fund for a good cause on Friday night at Tanks Arts Centre.
Life Of The Party – For Josh brings together indie rockers The Medics, hip-hop duo Fozzey and VanC and a group of top local bands for a big night of music and charity fundraising.
Inspired by the loss of The Medics and Fozzey and VanC’s mutual friend Josh Finegan in 2010, Life Of The Party is named after the Fozzey and VanC song of the same name and seeks to raise awareness and funds for youth depression.
Before performing, all bands at Life Of The Party will first read their own self-penned message on youth depression, with the aim of spreading the message that no one has go it alone.
“We have personally seen the affects of suicide on family and friends around us,” Andrew from The Medics said.
“We want to raise awareness of this cause through our music and are proud to support this event.”
Alongside the music, a selection of information and youth services workers will be on hand for anyone who needs support, or knows someone that does.
Ruth Crouch from the Declan Crouch Foundation says music is a great way of communicating something that isn’t always easy to talk about.
“No one in the world doesn’t know someone who’s been touched with depression, mental illness or suicide,” Ruth says.
“We want to give the message that you can get help.
“Youth services will be there if anyone needs to talk to someone, or pick up information about how they can help look after their mates.
“In the process, young people will learn how to look after themselves, too.
“I’m so excited about this concert, there really isn’t a better way of reaching for young people.
“I hope to see everyone out at the show this Friday night.”
Life Of The Party - For Josh featuring The Medics, Fozzey and VanC and more is at Tanks Arts Centre on Friday, from 5.30pm. Tickets are $20/$15, available on the door only. This is an all-ages show. No pass outs.
If you’re having a problem with depression, help is available. Anyone with personal problems can contact Lifeline on 131 114, or Kids Help Line on 1800 551 800.
