Cyclist killed in early morning accident at Mareeba

A 75-YEAR-old man involved in a traffic crash in Mareeba this morning has died in hospital.

The man was riding a bicycle when it was struck by a car at the intersection of Rankin and Byrnes streets around 6.30am.

He was initially taken to Mareeba Hospital before being transported to Townsville Hospital suffering serious head injuries.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
