Police are investigating after human remains were located near Cooktown on Wednesday.

The remains were located on a sand dune on the north shore of the Endeavour River and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
They are believed to be historical, however, an autopsy is yet to confirm this.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious.  
Investigations are continuing.
