MURDER charges against two men over the death of Kewarra Beach resident Gregory Elms have been dropped, a court has heard.

The Department of Public Prosecutions has instead charged Cairns men Joshua William Hickson and Brendan Lee Gobus with manslaughter.

Mr Elms was found dead in his Frankston St home in January, 2011, and it is believed his body lay undiscovered for about a week.

The matter will be mentioned in the Cairns Supreme Court again on January 17.
