Backpacker hostel manager rated best in Cairns
A BACKPACKER hostel manager has been judged the best for customer service in the Far North.
Judges of the Cairns Region Tourism Association annual customer service award said Travellers Oasis manager Helen du Cros epitomised why good service was paramount in the industry.
CRTA president John Vicary said Ms du Cros's commitment to "excellent customer service, her enthusiasm and firm knowledge of the area and her genuine love of people, coupled with her friendliness and high energy level, make her an outstanding hostess and ambassador to all she meets".
"Her commendations all remarked on her friendliness and ability to welcome every guest personally, even when there is a reception full," he said.
"She somehow manages to greet them all with a smile individually as she processes the others.
"Helen goes the extra mile for everyone, even at the end of an exhausting day she continues to attend to every fine detail, for her guests the next day to ensure their experience is seamless."
Her employer Gabriel Thallon said Ms du Cros was "incredible".
Ms du Cros said she was humbled by the award.
"I love it (my job). Every day is different," she said.
Ms du Cros said she had no intention of leaving the job or Cairns.
She left the UK four years ago for a holiday, took three months' leave and intended to return.
She visited Cairns and loved it so she decided to stay.
