BREAKING NEWS: THE Malanda Post Office has been evacuated and several streets blocked off after a substance was discovered on mail items.

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said mail workers had discovered the substance on parcels in a sack of mail items around 2.19pm and had notified emergency services.

She said crews had evacuated the building and nearby streets as a precaution until the material was identified.
