Party like it's the end of the world

A series of parties of apocalyptic proportions are headed Cairns' way tonight.

It's the moment conspiracy theorists from across the globe have been waiting for.

Today is December 21, the day that some say the ancient Mayans claimed was the end of their 5125-year Mayan Long Count Calendar (a period known as the 13th Baktun), or in simpler terms, the end of time.

Whether or not the apocalyptic theory holds true (or even really comes from the Mayans at all) is the subject of conjecture, but what Friday does mean for the rest of us is an excuse to party like it’s the end of the world!

Bellavista at The Pier kick off their End Of The World Party today from 4.30pm, with DJs Sammy J and The Doctor and special guest vocalist Amy Chase.

Across on The Esplanade, The Casbah Lounge will kick off their special End Of The World edition of Drops’N’Wobbles from 9pm-5am.

Featuring a top line-up of bass, dubstep and electro talent, including Crasey, Attic, Downs, Tommy Decks, Jazz D, Hobberz and Josh Leach, Drops’N’Wobbles is always a popular night – make sure you head down and enjoy it, as this could be your last chance!

Finally, for those looking for a bit of live music, Clarketown take over The Lion’s Den near Cooktown from 7.30pm, promising to bring in the end of the world with a rollicking line-up of country and blues.

End is nigh: whether or not it's all over like the Mayans (possibly) predicted, tonight is a great chance to party.
