Oh baby, that's some special Christmas present
SHE may have interrupted a huge family reunion but parents Pasert and Kamonwan George-ya could not be happier with their early Christmas present yesterday.
The couple, originally from Laos and Thailand, were due to celebrate Christmas Day with 30 family members who had flown in from Darwin because Kamonwan was not due until December 30.
But after going into labour on Sunday, she spent two days waiting before the little girl finally made an appearance at 3.40am yesterday.
"I can't believe it," Kamonwan said, gazing down at her daughter they are still to name.
"We've got a lot of ideas for names, we're just not sure yet.
"We've got 10 nephews who are all boys so this is the first girl in the family."
Their daughter, who weighed 3.12kg, was the first baby born at Cairns Base Hospital on Christmas Day.
The maternity ward was kept busy with four babies born as of 5.30pm yesterday - two girls and two boys.
