THE Far North's hot streak has continued, with a lucky Gold Coast family winning $500,000 after receiving a scratchie ticket in the mail from friends at Clifton Beach.

The family, which has asked to remain anonymous, enjoyed a very merry Christmas after the scratchie arrived in the mail on Christmas Eve.

"My friend up in Cairns sent the ticket in a card to my daughter and I, to say merry Christmas," the mother said.

The $10 Instant Scratch-It was purchased from NewsXpress Clifton Beach and took out the top prize.

"We'll be sharing the prize between both of us and other family members. We might be able to take an overseas holiday as well," she said.

"All I could say to my friend who gave us the ticket is thank you, and when can you send us another one?"

The Far North has enjoyed an unprecedented lucky streak this year, with six people becoming instant millionaires through lotto wins.

Golden Casket listed Cairns as the second-luckiest postcode of 2012, with punters sharing in more than $4 million.

While Gold Lotto has been the main source of luck, scratchies have also contributed to some big wins.

In October, a Babinda man won $200,000 from a $4 scratchie ticket, while later that month a Brisbane couple won $1 million from a $5 Set for Life ticket they picked up at Port Douglas.
