Sun to keep smiling on Far North as kids stay cool in the pool
ELIAS and Lauren Pharran slapped on the sunscreen and lapped up school holiday fun at the Esplanade Lagoon yesterday before expected crowds flood to the popular pool to cool off this weekend.
Forecasters predicted fine and partly cloudy conditions for Cairns today with temperatures reaching 33C.
Elsewhere in the region, Mareeba can expect an afternoon shower today with a top of 33C. Innisfail is tipped to be partly cloudy with a top of 31.
The ultraviolet index will be at extreme levels at 14 across the Far North before isolated showers hit the coast tomorrow.
A tropical low which is set to intensify into a cyclone this morning remains unlikely to enter Australian waters.
The southern Solomon Islands are bracing themselves with winds of about 100km/h predicted to hit the region today.
The tropical low, which will be named cyclone Freda when it intensifies, is then likely to keep tracking south, towards New Caledonia, and will have no effect on the Queensland coastline.

Cairns: Showers. Min 24, Max 32
